Cross-Reference Image & Table in Microsoft Word

Hi,

In this tutorial, we will learn how to insert the reference of image or table. This is usually required in research paper where we have to reference the image in the text while explain its description.

So, lets get started. So first insert image by going INSERT > PICTURE and select the desired picture from the disk. Then we have to add caption of the inserted image. For this right click on image and select 'insert image' as shown in image below:

Then write text for the caption of the image in popup window:

Now, some text is added in Word document. Now we want to refer this specific image in text. For this, go to REFERENCE > CROSS-REFERENCE under the group of 'caption'. New popup window will opened. Select Figure and desired option 'Only Label and Number' as shown in below animation.

That's all. Reference to image has been added. For confirmation you can go to reference, it will show you it's link as shown below. By clicking on this link while pressing Ctrl will sent to that link.

The most important point is that, if you add image before this image, Word will automatically numbered it to 2 by selecting Ctrl +A then F9 key. Word will automatically update both references, in caption as well as in text.

Same procedure can be used for referencing the table.

Hope you like this post. Thanks for your time.

Take care.
